Primary schools cycle to school week
Just read that this year's cycle to school week is happening in primary schools at least next week. It's organised by Sustrans and sponsored by Halfords.
Hmmm! That'll go down well with those highly organised and pro cycling organisations!!!
Will halfords actually get bikes into stock in time?
Don't get me started about sustrans cycle routes around here. 15 miles zig wagging to do a 7 mile journey on the main local cycle commute route. Good planning sustrans. Was the aim to make the public not use them????

Some will, some won't. The campaign should highlight that nicely.

A word with caretaker would be a darn sight easier. Are you advocating schools provide shelter, and if so how would this be financed-parking fees perhaps?
Re: Primary schools cycle to school week
I'm certainly advocating the availability of space for bikes at school not limiting their use. The benefits to the individual and society of cycling are too great to allow that to happen.

Re: Primary schools cycle to school week
Our son's last school had a reasonably large bike shelter but you still get kids leaving their bikes and scooters against the outer school yard fence. They afforded the shelter about 5 years ago iirc despite being in debt.
This school gave instructions for KS2 kids leave them at the bigger racks at the front of school, I think there's 6 uncovered ones there. The KS1 and reception kids are too lean their bikes or scooters against the fence near reception area. It's not in debt which is unusual for primary schools round here aiui.
Neither are big enough if all kids cycled in. Not that it'll happen. First school did have a few keen cycling families plus families who are so pro school they'll support their school by getting as many cycling miles in while they're being recorded for this week's school competition as part of the nationwide campaign.
It sounds positive but imho it's a week of encouraging cycling followed by all the others when it's not encouraged possibly hindered.

Would have better to launch in April.By late October it will be to dark to ride home.So impetus will be lost withinn weeks.I think someone is tryingb to capitalise on the cycle boom.

I think that might have encountered a problem this year...
