Hi,
What sort of grease would you recommend for this bearing in mind that it's normally one off lubrication?
So I want it to stay there but I don't want to run out and or contaminate the bush.
At the moment the bush and the shaft are good with no play.
The vehicle is done over 80,000 miles in 30 years, what ever was there before must've done the job quite well, I have never touched it in over 20 years.
I've had a look a few times on the Internet but got basically nowhere.
I imagine a lot of them are plastic?

What is the metal part made from ?
Does it actually need lubrication ?

I think in the actual manual or any manual I can get hold of it says something like use "MAFAC " grease? IIRC.
It's metal to metal, the steering column Is obviously steel, The bush I believe will rust, but I'm not sure this didn't come off the column.
But even some steels of good quality don't rust that easily.
I suppose rather than search for steering column grease, I should look for a tacky grease which doesn't attack rubber That can be used on steel?

P.S.it's possible course that it might simply be self lubricating?

I don't know about Mafac but there is a "Marfak" grease:-

Described as being for plain and low speed bearings. That bearing is both.
