My mate was violently opposed to any notion there was anything such thing as covid-19 -- until his boy took it

( and this is the really weird bit -- he's tall and skinny not only that the doctors seem to think he'd had it for 6 weeks or more and could have been the seeder since the whole family was down with it.)

He had no symptoms at the start but when the others were almost over it he took bad stomach pains -- ended up in icu with multi organ failure. After a week long battle he's starting to recover.

I've never seen my workmate so worried, contrite and humbled. I've never gloated or said told you it's too serious for that but only offered, prayer and reassurance in this situation.

Farage was going on the other day about how awful that "illegals" would get the vaccine. Clearly he doesn't understand the implications about people not getting it. But Farage was never one to accept evidence.

I think the rules are similar here but regular testing of installed systems is done every 5 years.
New installations have lots of inspection stages when being constructed and need to be signed off.
A friend had to have a new one as the old one didn't comply with the standards.
It cost him €10000, partly because the 'run off' had to be pumped to an approved ditch. For years his old one just drained downhill.
I must say after living here 18 years I think France is a less smelly country.

You've probably just gotten used to the smell. (My house has a neutral smell but everyone else's stinks... )

Myhouse had a weird drainage setup.
It was a group of 5 houses on a communal drain, the 6th house (which wasn't on the system) had a well and pump that the 5 houses had installed at a cost of £12k, this pumped to the local sewerage system.
Next door to me had the control panel for the pump and I had the electricity meter for the pump. Each year I'd work out the electricity costs and bill my neighbours. If there was a problem I'd don my gloves and get stuck in...

Then the house with the well built another house on their front lawn and suddenly there where six of us.
Turns out if there are 6 houses then local WA become responsible, so they removed everything and put their own system in.
(The sixth house wasn't actually on the system but nobody bothered mentioning it to the WA)

You might be right, you do get used to smells.

One I could never tolerate was the smell in a friends house. They stopped inviting us to dinner after we declined so many times. We like the couple a lot but they have an ancient cocker spaniel that has an ear problems, absolutely stinks.
We stick to meeting them in the better weather when we can all sit in the garden.
Trouble is the pesky dog likes me and insists on lying at my feet.
One time I put some Vic up my nose before we went to mask the smell.

The IOM has produced a dashboard of information about the latest outbreak from first case to now. Here's the link

https://covid19.gov.im/general-informat ... t-updates/

Click the 14th of March snapshot

This chart was interesting

It's new positive cases since the first one of this outbreak.

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Apparently not.

The pump failed and needed a new one fitting, that cost about £1500 - so £300 each.
The houses are all large bungalows but one of them was bought and is used as a care home for severely mentally handicapped children. I don't know how it's funded but basically it was they that objected and cited the new house claiming it was the sixth house to the WA.
They appear to simply have accepted it without question.

Took them 18 months to install and commission their system and during that time the cheeky blighters only paid 12p / kwh for the electricity which at the time was costing me 16p. I reckon I ended up nearly a tenner out of pocket!
However since I no longer have the annual 'don-the-rubber-gloves-and-get-stuck-in' to fix issues with the pump (nearly always caused by the care home flushing 'wet-wipes' that lodged on the floats and pulled them under the water) then it's a small price to pay.

In the end the house with the well that isn't on the system got the shortest straw since it's now transparent to the rest of us but they still have a well and pump in their garden as well as providing access for the WA if anything goes wrong (the new cabinet talks wirelessly to their control centre).

There are still some around, I use one if forced to when we are in Pornic. Dash in, hold your breath and dash out, and inhale a lungful off air.

Well, I'm having a crash course in how test & trace works here, in Norway. Half of my son's year are in quarantine, now, from yesterday.

They had been allowed limited contact between two classes until Wednesday, when the measures were tightened again. Two classes on the same year, one of them my son's, used the gym during the same time (but not together)on Tuesday, and someone in the other class tested positive on Wednesday.

If he has a negative test (scheduled for later today), the rest of use are allowed normal, socially distanced, activity, while he quarantines. If his test is positive, we are all in quarantine, and have to get our own tests. The chances are small, as it does not seem he has been in direct contact with the child who tested positive, but it's possible if they turn out to be a super spreader, or something.

There are similar situations on the years below & above his, so 3 years are all on home school (instruction on Teams) at least through Easter.

We've had a letter home that the British (aka Kent) variant is in community transmission in our area, and that it not only is more transmissible, but it is more likely to infect younger people, and transmits much more easily among children than the previous variants :(

They thought a few weeks ago that they had limited the spread of the British variant in our area, but it seems that people travelling for winter half term (!?!) brought it back into the community. They have not said where people went, but if they left the country, they should have quarantined upon return, so either they broke the rules, or brought it here from another part of Norway.
