PS: This week's Private Eye has a piece on Duncan...
Now you remind me, I do remember. I shall have to look them up to get the full force.
I have known Johnson since the 1980s, when I edited the Daily Telegraph and he was our flamboyant Brussels correspondent. I have argued for a decade that, while he is a brilliant entertainer who made a popular maître d’ for London as its mayor, he is unfit for national office, because it seems he cares for no interest save his own fame and gratification.
A few admirers assert that, in office, Johnson will reveal an accession of wisdom and responsibility that have hitherto eluded him, not least as foreign secretary. This seems unlikely, as the weekend’s stories emphasised. Dignity still matters in public office, and Johnson will never have it. Yet his graver vice is cowardice, reflected in a willingness to tell any audience, whatever he thinks most likely to please, heedless of the inevitability of its contradiction an hour later.

Like many showy personalities, he is of weak character. I recently suggested to a radio audience that he supposes himself to be Winston Churchill, while in reality being closer to Alan Partridge. Churchill, for all his wit, was a profoundly serious human being. Far from perceiving anything glorious about standing alone in 1940, he knew that all difficult issues must be addressed with allies and partners.
I doubt Hastings has changed his mind since then.
For the avoidance of doubt, neither Duncan nor Hastings could be described as "lefties."
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

"The government is set to a launch an independent investigation into former prime minister David Cameron’s lobbying for the now-collapsed Greensill and the role of the scandal-hit financier Lex Greensill in government."

Sounds like a good idea. Now, who's the current independent adviser... ?

I think Cameron's lobbying pales to insignificance compared to a businesswoman's company allegedly getting resources and taxpayer money whilst allegedly having an affair with the leader of the granting body (a certain Mr Johnson). That does not make Cameron's dirty business OK but it does scream that the individual now launching the Cameron investigation might feel like cooperating just a little bit.

I see Johnson is still intending to visit India on a trade promotion trip. Despite the B.1.617 variant thought to be the reason for the Delhi surge in cases (thought to be largely unaffected by vaccination for/immunity from other strains floating round Europe/UK.

So he'll take them our businees and bring back a far worse variant than we currently have! Does the man ever think atall?

A leading scientist has branded Boris Johnson’s looming trade trip to India “crazy”, warning he risks bringing back an alarming new variant of coronavirus.

The B.1.617 strain lies behind a dramatic surge in infections which is wreaking havoc across the country – including in Delhi, the prime minister’s destination.

It contains a mutation reported to be “capable of immune escape, dodging antibodies (and T-cells) generated by a prior infection or a dose of vaccine”.
...
Prof Pagel added: “It’s risk-taking, it’s unnecessary – like last year, when he shook hands with coronavirus patients in hospital.

Re Cameron and Greensill, I get the impression that there's a push to turn the spotlight away from Dave onto a former mandarin.

Certainly looks like a heavyweight probe.

I see what you did there.

Current list of investigations, from BBC News:

• Government-commissioned review to report by the end of June will include David Cameron's role and how senior civil servant Bill Crothers was given permission to work for Greensill while on the government payroll

• The head of the civil service, Simon Case, has ordered all government departments to disclose senior staff with second jobs and outside interests by the end of the week

• Treasury Select Committee announced investigation into Greensill Capital on Tuesday with details set out next week

• Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee has just announced its own inquiry in to "topical issues arising around Greensill"

• Committee on Standards in public life looking at the wider issues

• Cabinet Office review of the Lobbying Act, launched before the Greensill row, will take it into account
Committee on Standards in Public Life

• Commons public accounts committee is also looking into Greensill controversy

Probably worth checking in an hour or so to see if there any more...

After spending £2.6m & hiring a Press Secretary, its all being abandoned.
Breaking:

Boris Johnson has axed plans for televised White House-style press conferences

Allegra Stratton, his press secretary, will become his spokeswoman for COP26

The £2.6m No 9 briefing room will instead be used by the PM, ministers and officials
More blatant fraud and incompetence so many people were happy to vote for it. :(

Am I the only person in the country that does not have Johnsons WhatsApp number? I pay tax and want it "fixed" so I don't pay tax but without Johnson's personal number looks like I'll have t keep paying-up to HMRC.

Re Dyson & tax, the bloke's banging on about "who wouldn't want to get the country a whole load of ventilators?!" is surely Johnson scrapping the barrel - as we know, Dyson didn't deliver. Trouble is, this sort of bluster is his stock-in-trade. See too the recent accusation that he carried on the affair with Arcuri "at the marital home". He really does appear to have the ability to dig repeatedly into said barrel of poo and come out smelling of roses!

Johnson accurately said that when ventilators were urgently needed he spoke to many other companies, not just Dyson.
Why didn't someone ask him, did any of the other companies ask for tax breaks?
