I suspect that the decreasing disapproval in the first half of the year was caused by an effective vaccine being successfully rolled out.

Today I opened a packet of paracetamol.

Or a new hospital, as Sajid Javid would call it.

What a politely worded headline.

Depends what comes next...

... wouldn't it be nice to see proposals that were developed collaboratively and in the open, with option appraisals and impact assessments? The relevant timescale for anything to do with housing is many decades, not the news cycle of special advisers and partisan press.

But maybe will this go in the counterbalance pan against "Elections never changed anything".

The relentless weakening of Parliament by the Executive has an unexpected critic:

"‘Poll tax 2.0’ will harm jobs and families, Treasury’s own experts admit"
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/20 ... rts-admit/
(Paywalled)

"Boris Johnson's National Insurance increase could result in the breakdown of families and deter companies from hiring new staff and increasing wages, according to the Government's own analysis.

"A bombshell impact assessment produced by HM Revenue and Customs for the Treasury warned that one effect of the 1.25 percentage point tax increase "may be an impact on family formation, stability or breakdown as individuals, who are currently just about managing financially, will see their disposable income reduce".

"Downing Street is likely to face questions about why the assessment was not made available to MPs before they approved the plan last Wednesday."

Grant Shapps said the government was considering building a bridge or tunnel between Scotland and the island of Ireland.

“One of the elements in that review is should we have some sort of fixed connection – that could be a tunnel, it could be a bridge – between, for example, Scotland and Northern Ireland, which is the closest crossing,” he told BBC Breakfast on Wednesday.

But some have claimed the prime minister is simply seeking a distraction and noted that his talk of bridging the Irish Sea follows similarly grandiose and ultimately undeliverable schemes he dreamed up while mayor of London. And experts have warned that the depth of the Irish Sea and the presence of dumped munitions would cause problems.

TBH, I don't think that connecting Scotland and NI is such a daft idea. BUT, I think the government need to ensure some other things (like food security for the millions of households that don't have it) are funded first & the treasury needs to be healthier, which probably means taxing some of his mates...

Not entirely in his gift but he does seem to fool an awfully lot of people.

Expecting a new bunch of scapegoats soon (later today?). He can't keep idiots in post forever to deflect criticism from himself - after too long and it starts reflecting badly on him. So a new batch, "fresh start", those anti give him another chance, ruffle his hair a bit, play the lovable rogue and they'll be behind him for a bit longer (and just look at how many disagreed with the NI increase but still voted for it).

The question is whether the incompetent fools will be sacked or just moved elsewhere (where they'd still have to support Johnson).
