The Torys have to play with education carefully. Their usual ploy is to stick someone in charge who looks from worried parents' point of view, somehow plausable. Once in place they can stir the stick and make an unholy mess - there's nothing the Tory party fears more than a working-class kid with a book... However, even the dimmest commentator could see that the most recent incumbent, the clueless Frank Spencer-a-like, wasn't up to ruining the UK's schools and at the same time, looking even faintly competant or well-meaning!!

(In my opinion) Through the pandemic Williamson's stupidity has deflected blame from Johnson so he served his purpose (from Johnson's perspective). However, to keep him on now would no longer work, Johnson's judgement in keeping him would have become the issue so the deflection would no longer work.

Buckland was a decent and intelligent man. I found he listened and his door was open. My guess is he has been sacked to make way for Raab. Truss is rumoured to be going to be FS.

Both guess and rumour are now confirmed as true.

There's a question on this forum somewhere about whether Cummings got permission to reveal anything. He didn't.

She's never been a fan of the BBC, far too many left wing programmes for her.
Anything that gets close to the truth and questions the government will no long be encouraged.

The cabinet and other ministers is now less about between supporters of brexit and remainers and more about ideological purity and, on the way, reduced accountability. Buckland in Justice was not happy with the attempts to limit judges, lawyers or JRs. Raab is much less troubled.

I don't know all those being appointed but those I do it looks like Johnson is filling posts with "yes people" who will blindly support him.

But his now well established inability to sack people for disastrous performance or bad mistakes will give ministers who strongly disagree or make big mistakes confidence they will not be sacked (but might be moved on next reshuffle months/years away). nb I see a reshuffle under the cover of a "refresh" as being different from sacking a disastrous minister after bad mistakes. nb "mistakes" tend to mean bad impact for public (like dying of Covid in a care home ...).

And "Nadine Dorries" and "culture" in the same sentence! let alone having responsibilities. Maybe BBC will have to stop
