If I was a leader of a developed country attending COP I'd take particular exception to being told to "honour commitments" (re payments to help other countries address emissions). Johnson lecturing the rest of the world about "honouring commitments" whilst he's breaking multiple manifesto commitments inc; 0.7% overseas aid cuts.

Comment of Johnson lecturing the world about how he is now being our saviour

To make matters worse, most of the damage was self-inflicted. Trying to drum up global support for the Cop26 summit by reminding everyone he had written several articles 20 years ago that had been sceptical of climate change wasn’t the brightest idea he had ever had. It just made him look like the untrustworthy chancer most people thought him to be. Nor did his excuse that when the facts changed he changed, help greatly. No one could remember the facts about climate science having changed that much over the last two decades....

An interesting example of how far this government's policies are from traditional Conservatism.

Now we know what it costs to become a Minister. I suspect it's cheaper if you only want House of Lords.

Unclear if these "payments" are tax deductible.

Maybe I'll spend my lump sum on becoming a minister when I retire.

Boris Johnson has sparked outrage on the eve of the Conservative Party conference after saying “never mind” about cancer death rates and the recent fall in life expectancy.

Which explains a lot to me.

Johnson: “I’ve given you the most important metric – never mind life expectancy, never mind cancer outcomes – look at wage growth.

“Wage growth is now being experienced faster by those on lower incomes. It hasn’t happened for 10 years or more. That is what I mean by levelling up.”
It couldn’t be clearer. And anyone who continues to support this obscenity is beyond the pale as far as I am concerned.

You can argue about how lacking in charisma Starmer is, or how loonie left Corbin is or how inconsequential Davey is, but they are the epitome of great leadership compared with this.

I didn't watch Marr's interview this morning, but it sounds as if he behaved as a political journalist should.

And that the Prime Minister's utterances are keeping the fact checkers busy.

I regard the state of the NHS as quite horrific. Johnson keeps saying we can cope with 40,000+ Covid deaths per year (current rate) because the NHS is not overloaded. I think the NHS is completely overloaded. I was referred to hospital consultant 20 months ago and still no treatment. 2 months ago a different specialty at the hospital decided my consultant was not up to my case and asked I was referred/transferred to another consultant at a larger city hospital - that department has "9/10 patients treated within 72 weeks of GP referral" yet I could go online and book a private consultation with that consultant for an appointment in 10 days time!

And when I see Johnson saying "never mind life expectancy, never mind cancer outcomes" it all explains why.
