Boris's Brain is missing
Re: Boris's Brain is missing
Heard Bercow on R4 this morning and once you got through the "why use one short word when 6 long words would say the same?", he was very very condemning of Johnson's failure to tell the truth (but he wouldn't use the word "lie"). He was also saying about recognising that humans do sometimes err but it is then incumbent on the MP to return to the House to correct the untruth - something he pointed out Johnson does not do.
He was saying how such untruth and failure to correct is significantly eroding trust in out politicians and Westminster.

Re: Boris's Brain is missing
How many doses of Covid vaccine has India exported to the UK?
EDIT:
It looks like 5 million:
https://www.mea.gov.in/vaccine-supply.htm
But please do correct me if my interpretation of that table is wrong, as you appear to have detailed knowledge of this subject.
The UK Government has ordered approximately 400 million doses from various sources, and has so far delivered 50 million doses (1st and 2nd). The 5 million doses received from the SII therefore represent 10% of the doses so far given to people in the UK.
The population of India is 1,366 million. 5 million represents 0.37% of 1,366 million.
The SII is not just a supplier of vaccines to India. It is the world's largest producer of vaccines:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serum_Institute_of_India
The UK health services are currently delivering half a million doses (1st and 2nd) of Covid vaccine a day. So without the SII delivery that implies the vaccination would be 10 days behind its current progress.
A further 5 million doses are on order from the SII, though delivery seems to be in dispute.

I wouldn’t put any store on Bercow’s words - he’s consumed by bitterness and wracked by failure. His hated of Boris utterly blinds him.Psamathe wrote: ↑2 May 2021, 5:48pm Heard Bercow on R4 this morning and once you got through the "why use one short word when 6 long words would say the same?", he was very very condemning of Johnson's failure to tell the truth (but he wouldn't use the word "lie"). Yes, a difficult man to trust, much as Johnson really. And Bercow was effectively denied a peerage by the Johnson-led government, so no love lost there. And if course he was accused of bullying by Commons colleagues several times between 2018 and 2020. I wouldn't trust anything he says.markjohnobrien wrote: ↑2 May 2021, 7:20pmI wouldn’t put any store on Bercow’s words - he’s consumed by bitterness and wracked by failure. Were any of those accusations ever substantiated by a committee, or in disciplinary proceedings, or in an inquiry, or in a legal case or anything else?Ben@Forest wrote: ↑2 May 2021, 8:08pmAnd if course he (Bercow) was accused of bullying by Commons colleagues several times between 2018 and 2020.

Another Tory who does not think much of Johnson is Rory Stewart.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/p ... 14957.html“Johnson is … the most accomplished liar in public life – perhaps the best liar ever to serve as prime minister,” he said.
“He has mastered the use of error, omission, exaggeration, diminution, equivocation and flat denial. He has perfected casuistry, circumlocution, false equivalence and false analogy. He is equally adept at the ironic jest, the fib and the grand lie; the weasel word and the half-truth; the hyperbolic lie, the obvious lie, and the bullshit lie – which may inadvertently be true.”

I can't help thinking of that famous old French tongue-twister:
Didon dîna dit-on de dix dos dodus de dix dodus dindons!
Roughly translated: "Dido, they say, dined on ten plump backs of ten plump turkeys." Try and say it quickly in French.
Perhaps that's all the fragrant Dido actually achieved...!

I'm not familiar with the numbers here, but this is in line with many food famines, which have been caused not by failure of the harvest, but by exports from countries because their own people could not afford to compete with the prices being paid by peope in other countries.... The bit Boris did direct, purchasing, seems to have been achieved at the expense of India, taking doses made there which helped allow cases to surge and new variants to arise, and the EU, messing up UK exports and tourism. ...

I quote him not because of any novelty, but because Stewart is an example of the considerable number of Tories who despise Johnson. The time will come when they actually do something about the shame.markjohnobrien wrote: ↑2 May 2021, 10:23pmWhat’s new? Re: Boris's Brain is missing
Rory certainly can't be the only one. The sole Tory sitting on our Town Council, alongside Mrs P and her fellow Greens and LibDems, (who almost swept the board back in 2019) is a very reasonable chap - Mrs P has a good opinion of him. That in itself speaks volumes! I've never dared to ask him his opinion of BoJo, but I'd not be surprised if it's similar to Rory's...Mike Sales wrote: ↑2 May 2021, 9:45pm Another Tory who does not think much of Johnson is Rory Stewart.
