I was not being flippant, but was referring to the Serbian surrealist author Risto Ratkovic’s lesser work based on the interpretation of Lise Deharme’s Oh! Violette ou la Politesse des Végétaux. The work was tentatively subtitled; The blue giraffe can no longer play the harmonica, but later changed to; The langoustine is a cello. Within the work Ratkovic expresses the need for a new consideration on the overall thrust of second and third person passiveness, utilising the terms “tinny” or “woody” to delineate such. The work is somewhat hard going written as it is backwards with every other word being in either Serbian or Silbo Gomerian. But is nevertheless a good read and highly recommended.

Can I just add a little "issue" I see with posters and signs?
This one in the loo at at local hostelry.
Professional sign, not home made.
It should read:
This is a
NO SMOKING
area
I don't have a photo of the luggage trollies at Plymouth station but there's a big sign on each of them. The sign is maybe 6" tall by the full width of the trolly.
It says on the left of the sign:
NOT TO BE
PLYMOUTH
On the right separated by maybe 6" due to the locking mechanism and fittings, it says:
REMOVED FROM
STATION

As I was scrolling down and first saw the sign, I thought the point was that prohibitions are conveyed by a red ring only - a discussion we've had at length before.

Next time I'm at the station, I'll photograph it.
It says, on the left, "Not to be Plymouth".
Then, on the right, it says, "Removed from Station".
The two statements are far apart and separate.
It's suggesting that the trolly shouldn't be in Plymouth, and that the trolley has been removed from the station.

No need for a pic just for me: I've worked out what you were getting at which doesn't seem important to me (but then I'm relaxed about returning trolleys to the trolley park.)
Re: More better grammer and speeling please.
Just that the layout of posters isn't good. Obviously we know what they mean, but plain and simple and a good layout is a good thing. All it needs is planning and thought and presentation .............. not word processing and unthinking-ness.
Go back to the old days with paper and big pens, we would lay it all out to best and visual effect with "punchy" words and phrases.

Funny thing that. Reminds me of a certain movie poster I saw plastered over just about every available space on walls, at the station, etc., back in the 1960s. I remember wondering, at first glance, who "Cary Audrey" and "Grant Hepburn" were. Not a couple of actors I'd ever heard of.
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.

The appended letter has been criticised in another thread.
That has included the suggestion that in official letters there should be only one sentence per paragraph.
Any views on that? And has anyone else ever heard of such a rule?
Thanks
Jonathan

Never heard of one sentence paragraph rule before. The first paragraph though I can see the red pen my old language master would have used. Written by a Shadow Secretary of State in a hurry, I hope, as it doesn’t read as if it was given much thought.
I’ve given up worrying and can keep my sanity and take great relief knowing she didn’t start a single sentence with So.

I think the whole first sentence could just binned off. There's also too much passive voice. I'm not some don't use passive voice ever evangelist, I've specifically told Word to pipe down on such matters. When writing dry reports about what I've done it's fine in my view. However, if I were writing such a letter I don't think that's the place for it.
'already been found to have breached' >> 'he has already breached'
'himself personally' redundancy
'News reports today suggest that': can just be deleted
'was engaged' - 'is engaged' ??
'at taxpayers' expense' strikes me as a separate sub phrase so needs commas
'would appear to be' > 'is clearly'
etc.

Sorry never heard of him/her.
It’s a formal letter it needs to be direct and factually correct otherwise on receipt I might bin it.
