Personally I just read news in newspapers I learned long ago to not read pundits. I never read them, because they all have angles. Never heard of that bloke.

I gave you a link. What do you think of papers which choose to publish his nonsense?
As opposed to papers which were campaigning against inaction on CO2 at that time.

Delingpole has contributed some positive and balanced climate change denialism to the Express, Mail, Times, Telegraph and Spectator.
No bellyaching there! He does whinge about wind turbines though.

Balanced in this case = denial.
I trust that my heavy sarcasm was clear.
I do apologise: I hadn’t actually picked that up although it did surprise me that you appeared to support Delingpole. Thanks for he clarity!

Hi TM, The really problematic root of most of the waterfront development is a legacy from "That Bloody Woman", I won't say her name! Think of a cider producing family.
When the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board went into melt-down she did a fix for a few of her friends? Instead of the terms and conditions of the deeds of grants being complied with, in effect the land reverting to the original owners as was in the covenant, she simple created the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, which when it messed up meant that it was snapped up by Peel Holdings, quid quo pro, friendship indeed?
Peel Holding have friends to this day in areas that favour their particular agenda!
They don't like using land they own for development when they can nick it from the citizens of Liverpool, their Isle of Man handling area being a case in point. They lost a court case over it, with a judgement that they couldn't re-apply for its use until the youngest person in the court had turned their toes up! Well the rude grabbers took it any way, despite my still having a pulse! Friends in the Council???
So they hold all of the cards which might be why UNESCO cried enough?
So TM, enjoy you next visit, I'd recommend spending a bit of time in the "Western Approaches Museum", Rumford Street. Read a book called "A Game of Birds & Wolves" to prepare you, great read.
I was in attendance on it's opening day, photo duties for the Russian Convoy Club. Human heritage. IGICB MM

Mike This is still a largely free country thank goodness. Personally I wish we had free speech laws like the US. Nutters and extremists usually condemn themselves.

Woke agendas want to shut down and cancel certain viewpoints. They are the biggest current threat to personal freedom.

Those newspapers agendas are fairly clear but they sometimes campaign for worthy causes too.

I have a sewage sump with a pump in my garden. The float switch can stick so that I keep a dedicated rod to prod it into life. I call it the Delingpole.

Dodging the question again.
I asked what you concluded about these papers, not whether they should or not be allowed to publish such misleading stuff.

Mike....Express, Mail, Times, Telegraph and Spectator? I think the Express is a bit of a rag. The Mail still a rag but less so, quick to take up arms on things. I like The Times, good reporting without a political slant generally, but, some really awful pundits who I wont read. The Telegraph is overtly a Tory paper but often has interesting news stories. I have never seen the Spectator?

I regard newspapers that stifle free speech as the pits as are Polly Toynbee and Matthew Paris IMO.

These days I rarely buy a paper but look every day at the newspaper headlines on the BBC News app.

Hi MM,
do you mean Bulmers, Rekordelig, Kopparberg or Magners y any chance? Most common ciders in the UK.
Seriously, the old fashioned roofer did a lot of harm but I think she did good too. Something Liverpool didn't like being a mostly looney left city. I remember the dockers striking all the time and not being a socialist all in saw about Liverpool was at least mostly a testament to when far left types get control of the council. It's taken a long time to recover their destruction, as well as the old roofer!

I think Liverpool's view on Thatcher is similar to views in other areas. But some areas saw her as positive. I just think that when you have one extreme then the other extreme will fight against it. With right wing in power in Westminster and left wing in Liverpool and other cities the power is probably stronger with a leader in number ten with a good majority. Thatcher had that and faced the opposing extremes in Liverpool and the dockers but also the miners too. They were ideological battles but the leaders on both sides didn't suffer only the footsoldiers.

I was only a kid but I just thought the whole situation was ludicrous. Why didn't they all just do what was right and needed by the people. Not one side truly treated the citizens as the centre of the battle I thought. That's as someone who drove through parts of Liverpool that look like the video for the specials. Those parts of Liverpool scared the bejeesus out of me, I was still a primary school kid so understandable feeling. Glad I'd never seen a zombie film back then!!! I still saw that as everyone's fault which it was. No need for this to get so bad.

Mind you, 50s were probably as bad or worse. My grandparents came back to Liverpool in the 50s from the land of plenty USA. They had hard times. Crosby beach after work for driftwood so they're not cold at night, scraping and scrimping to get by. It was a culture shock. People still using washboards and mangles to clean clothes. Back in USA they had a washing machine and gadgets. Things were easier over there.

You’ve once again accused people of being ‘woke’ without saying what you mean.
There are woke folk who tend to demonise people that existed long ago in different times. Often seem to accuse others of racism when there is or was no racist intent. They react to some viewpoints by trying to ostracise others, shut down differing points of view and vilify those that hold them. Often come across as prickly and intolerant and tend to insert racism and intolerance when it doesnt really exist.

Thanks, Al.

You mean like the current government plans to send journalist to prison, won't go on Newsnight and want to stop judicial review and criminalise gypsies?

Im sure you are correct. I dont want to see the start of everything becoming like those TV ads where there is an initial long gush of almost uninteligable disclaimers and exceptions with everyone wearing little ribbons in support of something or other. Its unecessary and an imposition. Why cant we all quietly just get along?
