iMac problem - replacement but not a computer?
Re: iMac problem - replacement but not a computer?
Nope.
Andy did say that he and his family are taking a day off or two over the (this) week, so there could be a delay.
I don't expect hear from him until he has something to say.
Give it to this time next week and I've not heard from him, I'll drop an email to ask how the battle is going.

What's happening Mick F?
Re: iMac problem - replacement but not a computer?
Dunno.
Not heard from him.
We took it to Saltash on Friday 14th May.
That's two weeks the day after tomorrow.
I'm going to give it until the middle of next week and if we've not heard from him, we'll be emailing. Maybe even email on Friday this week.
I know, and he knows, that finding the modules for it will be difficult.
It's of no use to me or us or anyone unless it's fixed, and even then the hardware is old hat. It'll do me quite well if it's fixed, and if he can't fix it, I'll know why and what's wrong.
Knowledge is everything.

And a little knowledge is dangerous!
Re: iMac problem - replacement but not a computer?
Had an email from Andy today.
He apologised, but he's been manically busy, but he's getting onto the job today.
I replied that it's fine regarding the delay, but I do want it fixed if humanly possible. If not, at least we'll know why.
No news, but at least no bad news.

A replacement power supply is now fitted and the iMac is now up and running!
I don't know the cost of the whole job as yet, but I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning.

Hooray! My MBP was "off-line" for a while about a year ago, after its psu conked out - much easier to replace than an internal one obs, but the point is, I think a majority of computer failures will be the power supply.

While you're there, could you please ask him what's the likely culprit for the intermittent blackscreen on ours?
Late 2009 model - screen sometimes stays on for some time, sometimes goes off immediately on booting up. I've rigged up a slave screen which doesn't suffer this problem, but it's an irritant!
...I only ask as your bloke seems to know what he's talking about, which is rare IME

Andy's Computers.
https://www.andyscomputersplymouth.co.uk/
I emailed three different companies locally. Or should I say, I emailed two and clicked on the contact us button on the other.
No names, no pack drill, but Andy was the only one to reply.
We took it round to him, and the first thing he said, was that he's not an Apple expert at all, but he'll do his best.
He kept us informed at all the steps of the way, and he's a really nice chap.
I see you're in Bicester. Been through there lots.
It's a bit of a long journey to Saltash but it's a nice bike ride. I've cycled to Bedford and back a few times over the years as our daughter ran a pub there!
Gunnislake/Bridgwater/Swindon area/Oxford area/Bedford.
Bit of a hike with an iMac in the panniers eh?

May be back, hence the idle query - IME people who respond are worth talking to!

Re: iMac problem - replacement but not a computer?
As a minor 'webmaster' my reaction to that complaint is one of recognition. A lot of webserving software has an email contact feature built-in and 19 times out of 20, the company concerned doesn't bother to check the web server email address, over and above their admin. email addresses, hence no responce... As a rule always try to find the company's email address based on the company domain name. Of course, some (bigger) companies use the "contact us" web form to fob customers off...clicked on the contact us button on the other.

People who respond, are worth talking to, indeed.
If you have a "contact us" button, they need to be respond as well.
Contacts = business.
No contact = no business.
Andy got ours, and can heartily recommend him. Nice chap ..................... but we have to collect the iMac tomorrow.

We're home!
It works!
This is me typing on it at this very moment.
Andy fitted a secondhand power supply, as he couldn't find a recon. Whatever, it matters not, so long as my beloved iMac is up and running.
Andy's Computers.
Utterly recommended.
