Bluemels Mudguard Tool - crowd funding

Post by fastpedaller »

MODERATOR NOTE: The original of this announcement is a topic in the for sale section viewtopic.php?f=32&t=144085 that has turned into a crown funding to donate this tool to the National Cycle Museum in Llandrindod

A solid brass 'Embossing Tool' used in the manufacturing process for putting the logo on Bluemels Mudguards. This is without doubt a unique collectible, and suitable for a museum or serious collector - once it's gone..... it's gone! Don't miss this rare opportunity to pick up a piece of British Cycling History.
It comes with the silver tape which puts the "Bluemels All Rounder Made in England" logo on the mudguard.
Not an easy task to photo this item, and when viewed in the photo the writing on the tool appears in reverse! - Which of course embosses it the correct way on the mudguard.
I'm having a sort-out of my cycling components and collectibles, and this has been in storage about 25 years.
Price £95

Will be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery next day including insurance.

I bought a set of celluloid (?) mudguards BITD which must have been made using that exact tool. Unfortunately they were the shortest-lived mudguards I have owned ever; I managed to break them first time out.

I flipped the photo so you can see better what the mark looks like;

I would be willing to contribute money to a crowd fund to have this added to the National Cycle Museum. Any other volunteers?

Plus 1 for £10 crowd funding for the National Cycle Museum.
The celluloid mudguards reminded me of a bizarre science experiment that I conducted as a young boy of 8. I was obsessed with fire at the time and for some unknown reason I decided that the shiny brown mudguards on my mother's bike would surely be flammable, they were incredibly so along with a fair amount of the garage!
I'm 99% certain that they were Bluemel All rounders.

Happy days, and the last time I set a bike ablaze.

Cheers, Kenny Atherton

+ me too for £10 - this should be in a museum, ideally with public demonstrations on request!

If it’s within the rules of the forum can this crowdfund initiative be bought to the attention of other forum members not looking at this thread? Perhaps a representative of the museum who frequents this site can oversee the contributions. If not I will do the same with members agreement.

I've no knowledge of how a crowdfund would work, but would be more than happy for it to go to the Museum if the funds are raised :D

Hi Fastpedaller.

I think the easiest way is for us to just send you £10 or whatever others want to give via PayPal or transfer, until you have enough money to cover it.
I like the honesty of this forum and can't imagine you having any problems.

Let us know if you are happy with this suggestion and how we can pay via a PM.

Cheers, Kenny

Confirming I'm still in for a tenner.

Would it be useful to ascertain if the museum in question would be interested?

deliquiem that was indeed a sensible question!
I have enquired and, yes , National Cycle Museum would like it.

Peetee thanks for "crowd funding" idea.
Does this involve system operators creaming off %age for services?
Thankyou also to KennyA and fastpedaller for suggestions to get this artefact? to where it really belongs.
