Find My Friends has been available since iOS 8. Is that what you use?

But I don't how that GPS issue above played out in practice.

Find My is an existing app on the operating system.
My old 5c only has Find iPhone, and only finds your devices and not other people.

Never tried any third party apps for it or even considered it.

PS:
iPhone 5c is at IOS 10.3.3 and there are no other updates for it. It's no longer supported and hasn't been for a few years.

Mick F wrote: 30 Apr 2021, 8:26pm 5c is my favourite, and still have it and often fit my SIM into it.
Nice small phone and fits in a pocket beautifully.
Trouble is, it's not supported and the software is way out of date.
Happy with my 6s, but it's a bit big.
Give me an iPhone same size as my 5c and as supported as my 6s is, and I'd buy one like a shot.
I have the 11pro and that fits into any pockets I have?I don't consider it to be large at all!
I won't be installing 14.5 for a week or two.

I'm on the 12 mini (my X had a battery issue and battery change cost vs trade-in meant time for old one to be recycled).

Like others I hate large phones but I'm finding the 12 mini an excellent size. Minimal bezels small'ish phone but with a good sized screen for mapping, etc. Years ago departing from the 5 was horrible, lugging around what felt like a tablet and I never got used to it but I suspect it "adjusted" my expectations so moving down to a 12 mini was good. But the 5 was never great for mapping whereas the screen estate on the 12 mini means you get a lot of screen without the bulk. I want something 10 mm x 10 mm x 2 mm with a 13" screen but ... so I have to compromise.

But everybody will have a different acceptable compromise.

Hi,
I see that the mini 12 is smaller than the 2020 SE, but still larger than the 2016 SE.
there seem to be plenty of reviews out there on comparing 12 mini and the 2020 SE.

I must admit I loved the 5s for its size and currently use an iPhone 7 (both work phones), which while good and powerful and light, is too bulky for me. The 5s was much easier to fit in a pocket.

Yep.
iPhone 5 in any model is the "right size".

Why are they all so big now?

.......................... Don't answer, because it was only a rhetorical question.

6s does it, but 5c doesn't.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Find My Friends isn't a third party app.

Because manufacturers and many buyers are obsessed with larger and larger screens which means bigger phones...

Find iPhone on the 5c requires each and every time you open the app to sign into your Apple ID.
TBH, it's a pain in the bum to keep doing that, so I can't be bothered with it.

Find My on the 6s doesn't need to be signed into, and the app works hassle free.
6s software knocks spots of the 5c ........... which is a great pity as the 5c is the better phone ............... but unsupported.

Everything becomes obsolete eventually. It's the way the system works.
