Why? We're happy with a mixed economy. Except apparently Boris who denied the key role played by the state. Maybe he should go live in the country of his birth? ;)

I do wonder sometimes if Johnson does not see it as money from the state but more his own to distribute amongst his chums and mistresses as he sees fit.

Feudalism
You have two cows.
Your lord takes some of the milk.
Fascism
You have two cows.
The government takes both, hires you to take care of them
and sells you the milk.
Communism
You have two cows.
You must take care of them, but the government takes all the
milk.
Capitalism
You have two cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows.
You sell them and retire on the income.
Venture Capitalism
You have two cows.
You borrow 80% of the forward value of the two cows from
your bank, then buy another cow with 5% down and the rest
financed by the seller on a note callable if your market cap
goes below $20B at a rate 2 times prime. You now sell three
cows to your publicly listed company, using letters of
credit opened by your brother-in-law at a 2nd bank, then
execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer
so that you get four cows back, with a tax exemption for
five cows. The milk rights of six cows are transferred via
an intermediary to a Cayman Island company secretly owned by
the majority shareholder who sells the rights to seven cows
back to your listed company. The annual report says the
company owns eight cows, with an option on one more and this
transaction process is upheld by your independent auditor
and no Balance Sheet provided with the press release that
announces that Enron as a major owner of cows will begin
trading cows via the Internet site COW (cows on web).

Was originally supplied by a Student a few years ago, I am sure he copied it from somewhere. Try as I might I could not find his "original" script on my file system (may be on a backup drive somewhere) subsequently I plagiarised it myself.

You've put nothing to describe the people who just plod through life with no ambition and are bitter and twisted towards self-made people. Then when they get to their early 60's they then realise they haven't saved any money and haven't got a pot to p**s in!

It's the numbers I find staggering.
Everything costs 10x what I think it should.

I've been trying to find out how they spent £2.5 million on that briefing room - an amount that would probably rebuild my house 5x over.

I am surprised my MP isn't asking questions about those flags, flown limp (a sign of disrespect) with their bottoms below head height (a sign of disrespect, that you consider yourself of equal status to it, rather living under it) and on the speaker's left (a sign of... you get the idea)

But if somebody else was paying from their bottomless pit and with no "down side" I bet your house re-build would be more than you expect. But I agree spending so much when the UK economy is down the toilet and just to ape the US beggars belief or rather just highlights the sort of narcissist Johnson is.

I guess BoJo doesn't want to be seen as the one to "raise the scarlet [well: scarlet, white and blue] standard high!" Seems to me that would suggest the wrong party affiliation to him  . So keep the flag below head height.

Likewise our cross-channel neighbours sing of "L'étendard sanglant est levé" - another thing poor BoJo needs to steer clear of! So another reason to keep it down...

Perhaps I ought not to cite an infamous song which also began with the (translated) words "The flag on high".... Oh - perhaps I have....
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
Let us pass the time by performing physical experiments...
