Mobility Scooter

Post by Mick F »

Strange subject for we cyclists eh?
Fit and strong and active are we, well, especially me.

I'm considering buying a secondhand one. Not seriously considering, but giving the idea some thought.
Dog "walking", going to the shops (up hill there and back), general errands.

Not actually needed, but it would be great fun and they don't cost a fortune. Just been surfing eBay and for a few hundred quid they'll even post one to you.

Are they a green alternative to driving ....... even an EV.
I bet they are.

What range do you get out of one?
Will they do a few miles with 25% hills involved?

Hi MickF, With the brain or the legs it is simple? "Use it or lose it!". Bit like stair-lifts, they make it very easy to get lazy. Too many folk don't like expending effort, so either the grey sponge goes mushy, but the legs do as well. Don't become a lazy s*d Mick  TTFN MM

Have to say my wife (a nurse) says the same - once people start using a stairlift or a mobility scooter because the stairs or the walk is difficult, then the stairs or walk quickly becomes impossible. Really you should wait for impossible (or at least exceedingly painful) first.

Those with foresight (such as my mother and great aunt who is 90) moved from really nice houses to bungalows in advance of any possible mobility issues and they are both still fit and active.

Wouldn’t suit everyone though. I’m not a fan of bungalows.

Enormously variable. Roughly up to 25 miles for Class 3 vehicles with big batteries.

I can foresee a dog walk from Land's End to John O' Groats.

Don't! You may need one sooner than you'd wish. Walk or cycle, you know it makes sense.

Living where you do, I'd have thought a Quad Bike would be the way to go - now they look great fun whizzing around the lanes around here :D
