40 years ago today

Post by Colin63 »

40 years ago this very evening I was at Wembley watching Pink Floyd perform The Wall. It doesn't seem so long ago. Are there things you remember well that seem like yesterday but are, in fact, more than half a lifetime ago?

The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.

I also remember having a 99 ice cream while watching a yacht passing through a lock earlier today. Does that mean my prime was at about 4.00pm this afternoon?

Life is a short warm moment,
And death is a long cold rest.

I am surrounded by pictures, charts, maps and books which take me back to those trips.
I am glad that I stored up those memories when I could.
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Hmm, Pink Floyd, eh?
Well I can’t confirm it was today but twelve years ago in June I was chatting with Roger Waters while standing in his kitchen.........and I had no idea who he was!
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

I was in my local telephone box 1 1/2 mls from home arranging interviews from Wales to Scotland and parts in between
Thatcher government, I was made redundant and it certainly shaped the rest of our lives but not sure it was for the better.
Probably 40 yrs ago 2weeks ago if we need accuracy

That was only 1981 ......... seems like yesterday.

1981 June.
Doing sea trials in HMS Ambuscade out in the Channel.
Family living in Plymstock. Two girls aged 6 and 2 and I wasn't home much that year or the next.
We had our first brand new car - a Mini - we called her Dottie as she was Peridot Green.
