The Italian Job
The Italian Job
Daughter is a senior school English teacher and the subject being discussed in Literature, were adventures and car chases.
She bought .......The Italian Job ........... Micheal Cain etc ............. the the 15 year olds at school absolutely loved it. Bought it from Amazon for a fiver. 1969 British comedy movie, still being appreciated in 2021.
She showed it to her 11yo son - our grandson of course - and he reckons it's he best movie he has ever seen.
We had the VHS video many yonks ago, but long-since bitten the dust along with the VHS machine.
Downloaded the movie years ago, and have it on a memory stick as an MP4 and watch it from time to time.

Re: The Italian Job
As a schoolkid one of the local kids I hung around with at the time looked on Ceefax to see what was on that night and saw that film was on and said I should watch it. Glad I did.

Re: The Italian Job
Do not be tempted to watch the 2003 remake it is quite poor.
The modern (BMW) Mini does not have the same kudos as the original.

Re: The Italian Job
That 'thing' is not a Mini, no way! Like the so called MGs, horrid...

Re: The Italian Job
Dead right! Even worse now. A mini significantly larger than a Ford Focus or VW Golf.
The China MGs seem good enough cars but they are not MGs.

Re: The Italian Job
Whilst I agree that the Maxi isn't deserving of the Mini moniker, the current MGs aren't bad bits of kit at all.
Are they a bankrupt British company, no the mark has been sold on, but they are still good functional vehicles.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Re: The Italian Job
The name of the car has been sold on, but they shouldn't re-use them IMHO.
Saw a car the other day, and it was a VW.
It had GTE as a logo ............. the GTE was a Reliant Scimitar.
Also, the current run of Fords, have an Aston Martin shape to the radiator grille.
I don't know how they get away with this stuff.
Yes I do, it's marketing and hype.
Notice no-one has used the name Allegro.

I had two Maxis, wonderful motors, but not named as Minis? Austin Maxi was what I remember?

Re: The Italian Job
I read it as an ironic reference to the size of the MINI.

The Mini, reminds me of Viscount Nuffield. At the top of the hill I often sat by his grave and had a little chat and a drink A wonderful man, my hero. A workbench in his wardrobe with a pair of Phillips stickasoles! They wouldnt let him in the golf club so he bought it.

He was the man at Morris Motors. The Mini was built by BMC, an amalgamation of Morris and Austin
