I see Google are using an impression (clever joke!), of Georges Seurat's; 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La 'Grande Jatte' as their banner today to celebrate the 162 anniversary of his birth.

I saw this in 1991 whilst on a visit to the Art Institute of Chicago, and was mightily impressed by the technique and scale of it - 2 x 3 metres approx'. I particularly like the small details in the picture, such as the fan and the little butterfly by the seated lady .
This link to The Art Institute's high-resolution image of painting , enables multiple zooming to see the fantastic technique he used, for anyone who's interested. I recall that Vorpal has mentioned here previously of a visit to see it. Click once on the image and then use the + button in the lower right hand corner to zoom further in, there are great little details all over the picture and you can even see the weave of the canvas.

Georges Seurat - Artist
Re: Georges Seurat - Artist
And Sondheim, who made a musical from aforementioned painting, passed last week as well.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Thanks Bob, I did not know that, interesting.

There's a BBC (?) documentary about the painting which 'decodes' that I saw not so long ago.

Very subtle Jonathan, such purity of form, where did you study linear abstract pointillism ?
Mind it doesn't it doesn't send you dotty though.
I found this ten minute video about the picture on youtube's Art History School Channel, where Paul Priestley gives some interesting perspectives on the painting - it's techniques and subject matter.
