Good find.

Clearly he has the correct priorities for a single man

"Clearly he has the correct priorities for a single man"
And with priorities like that, he'll stay a single man. The fool!
Unless, of course, he needs a good wash!

Re: A true cyclist camping
Obviously he's not bothered about her, but why hasn't he got her bike in there too?
Re: A true cyclist camping
I think you've got the wrong end of the stick here!
SHE is the true cyclist - She's the one who is taking care of her bike, keeping it nice and dry in her share of the tent.
HE has obviously left his out in the dew and rain. Some people are so self indulgent

Trying to retain enough fitness to grow old disgracefully... That hasn't changed!

At least he hasn't got the bike inside the sleeping bag.

And Robert Stewart was in the privacy of his own dwelling, only exposed, or should I say detected by somebody with a master key. As soon as they realised that the room was occupied by somebody who chose not to unlock the door himself, perhaps they should have closed the door and left. I was going to say something along the lines of 'An Englishman's home ... ' then I realised that this didn't happen in England. I hope it woudn't.

Yeah - I never really understood that judgement. I hope that there is more to it than there appears to be, i.e. he deliberately set himself up to be 'found' or something because if not then he has my sympathies (as long as he stays away from my bike!).

Re: A true cyclist camping
I think it's fair to say that a lot of newspaper reports seem inaccurate to anybody involved with what's being reported. Having said that, over the years, I've heard a lot of claims about the utter superiority of Scots Law and the Scottish legal system more generally, compared with what we have in England and Wales.
The report says that the defendant was convicted of some form of Breach of the Peace. BoP is not a specific ofence in E & W but rather a state of affairs which is generally seen as a 'bad thing.' Complaints alleging 'Conduct calculated to cause a BoP' have regularly to tackle things like voyeurism (AKA Peeping Toms which only became an offence very recently) but a bind over was the only available outcome. It's clearly different in Scotland where BoP is an offence. In this thread we had what sounded like a well-informed explanation viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26526&hilit=breach see the posts by Neil Mc Ivor. I was particularly struck by a couple of sentences:
In spite of all the checks and balances mentioned in between, it does sound to me to leave open the possibility of prurient busy-bodies imposing their own standards on others. And I can't help thinking that's what's happened here. Unless there's a lot more to this than is included in the report.

(I presume that was meant to say something like "right minded" individual, since the person who objects is unlikely to be like-minded with the perpetrator.)Breach of the Peace covers a myriad of possibilities but in general covers behaviour that falls well short of what would be expected from a like minded individual.
The Law regarding Breach of the Peace is a bottomless pit of bizarre and surreal possibilities as are most other laws and open to interpretation. Ask any lawyer, police officer or court journalist.

"Man who had sex with bike in court"
Surely he could have found somewhere more private! And I bet the jury closed there eyes to it

As a former Special Constable, I question the sensibility of the case. It appears that the person in question was in a room which he had rented, the hotel workers had entered the room without his permission. I don't see that they had cause to complain.
