Oh Good Grief!
Oh Good Grief!
I've just been given one of these.
What should I do?????
(Click a couple of times for an even better view)
I know no more about it than you can see here. It's 7.30odd in the evening, and I have only just pushed it up the drive.

Oh god, an RSW
Now, I'm willing to forgive Raleigh for many MANY things, but those were just plain unforgivable

I hope you know that is BROOKS saddle?
Also, I think that the front light has been left switched on.
Do you think the dynamo is flat?

Re: Oh Good Grief!
I like RSWs. People think of them as a deficient Moulton clone but they were a balloon tyred small wheel cruiser. Mates of mine had them in the 60s and they are forever stuck in my memory as a cool and aspirational bike - hated by clubmen, loved by the hoi polloi. One friend raced a coach on his and beat it. The only problem was there's no top tube to tie your fishing rod to. Find some HP tyres and get 70 psi in and they'll go like stink.
I can even remember the Q Bikes trading in their roadsters for RSWs! http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/q/qbikes.htm

Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.
Re: Oh Good Grief!
The bike is presently residing in the kitchen. I promised Mrs Mick F that I'd find somewhere to house it whilst she's at work today!
I didn't want to leave it outside, as it's been stored in a dry barn for most of its life. The elderly people up the road have moved out, and friends are doing a house clearance. The chap was in the RAF during the war piloting bombers over Germany, and he then flew for BOAC until he retired. He was also a hoarder, and never threw anything out! By all accounts, all his uniforms are still in the wardrobes - all of them, even his WW2 bomber flying stuff! The RSW16 is only a small part of the junk that litters the place. Sadly, the RSW is the only bike.
Mrs Mick F asked what I was going to do with it.
Don't know, but I'd better move it out of the kitchen before she gets home.
(The chain is the least of my concerns!)

These things can be converted into recumbents: the seat rests up against the seatpost, and a spar welded forward of the head tube holds the bottom bracket.
Go down to your dump and rescue a BSO frame: chop the downtube off to make the spar, you know you want to....
