I've finally got the James how I want it. The 'moustache' bars are what I've been missing my whole life - they're superb

Naturally, there's not enough handlebar tape on a roll to go right to the stem, so that bit still looks a bit pants

The new blackened wheels look good too, but I chose cheap rims and I jujst can't get the tyre bead to sit evenly all the way round, so I have a flattish spot on both But bizarrely, I bought a complete front wheel for 20 squid for the hack bike, and that had Weinmann rims and the tyre sits perfectly

Graham - wots facing having the wheels rebuilt for the third time and wots really hacked off and wot treated himself to a new Carradice Junior to lift his spirits a bit but wot looks too new so wots gonna leave it in the chicken shed for a few weeks to 'weather' a bit

Twiggy's new Honey Brooks B17 finally arrived and is now her crowning glory on an alloy seat post. A test ride down to the bakery and its really comfortable needs no breaking in and not super slippy like my last one. A profitable trip too. I found a brand new inner tube in the middle of the road on the way back. Of course I had to rescue it, otherwise it would have been destroyed by the next car. If anyone here dropped it please PM me with the size, make and the road they lost it and I'll return it. Otherwise I'll keep it safe! Its exactly the right size for my tandem

Rebuilt Holly's front suspension this morning - that's all today as I went sailing this afternoon

what reverse levers did you use?

don't worry about the carradice, it's soon look less new if you leave it in a dusty place.

As expected, the handlebar tape didn't reach the end so has to be re-done Ditto the rear brake cable The cable-ties are there to hold things until completion etc.

Thankyou It's taken three other incarnations to reach this point, but I'm really pleased with it all now. I think the biggest difference was discovering my tyre pressure gage was over-reading by 13 psi

No other word for it Graham, stunning, just gorgeous. I was a bit resistant to your "mucking about" with the james, feeling it ought to be kept roughly to roadster spec, but you've swung me on that and it's a real beauty!

Thanks chaps It's all Christine's fault. I think that was the first bike I fell for when I first came to this forum, and desperately wanted something like it. Mine's not as good as Christine, but it'll do me

The problem now is that I want to use it all the time, and it might get dirty - I'm assured by my mates that I'm too old for dirty ol' bikes

Graham has raised the bar yet again. My Raleigh is looking decidedly 2nd rate now

Twiggy is finished for now. I would like to find some good looking pedals that are flats one side and SPDs the other. After 40+ years with clips I can't ride flats for any distance and toeclips would look just wrong on a F frame Moulton! Also when fundsallow I'd like a new 5 or 8 speed hub, but for now Twiggy ze var is over!

Slow progress on Holly due to boring things like Sunday cycling and Saturday sailing. I have now assembled the frameset - 2 sets of forks front and rear suspension and headset. Just the BB to fit and I can start hanging components off her. The 46 year old TDC BB cups are in excellent condition and of far higher quality than the new ones I bought, so theyre going back in. I have 3 axles to choose from so will fit the the best.

I'm going to need some advice from the cottered crank appreciation society - I had a right game with the Raleigh I have some nice quality cotter pins so I want to get it right this time! I have a NOS mattress saddle, NOS rubber pedals. I have bought new pinch bolts and barrel adjusters for the original brake calipers so we'll see how they come up. If they' don't pass muster I've found them at £15 a pair from Cycles of Yesteryear.

One unexpected problem is the bars. They are OK but the chrome is worn. I thought it would be dead easy! All I want is a nice new pair of All Rounder bars, but if you Google it there hundreds of different shaped bars called allrounder or that the makers think are all rounders! I'll try the the Wanted on this forum.

Meanwhile does anyone know where I can get white cable outers?
