Just remember, when you’re over the hill, you begin to pick up speed.

This is me by our garage door in the late 1950s. The bike you can see on the
left was my sister's, but she didn't ride it much. It was the first two-wheeler I rode!

It was a Phillips, navy-blue with cream mudguards.

(The car, on the other hand, was a two-tone black and grey Ford Anglia)

Amazing! It looks like me in my Dads garage with my bike!

There is a hill near Blaenau Ffestiniog that looks like that. Is it Manod Mawr?

Is your bike a Thorn Raven Sport Tour?

My guess is that it's a Mercury, based on what it says on the top tube

Very nice bike BTW, though as another Mercury rider I would say that.

Yes - it is Manod Mawr (and Manod Bach) near Ffestiniog.

And the bike is a Thorn Mercury, which I use all the time now. I have had some problems with my hands which doesn't allow me to use drops any more or do any gear changes with my LH.
So I switched from my Spa Ti Audax to this. The Thorn is not as quick or as responsive to a few quick turns of the pedals, but I have grown to like it, and it is certainly very comfortable.

I'm not a mercury rider and I'd say that too. Is that a hub gear system?
I am here. Where are you?

Great looking bike and a lovely photo - I can almost smell the moorland!

Nowhere so interesting last year and for health reasons never will be again, but I do still use my Brompton!
