are we being dumbed down?

Post by whoops »

I visited my home page to see if I had any E-mails.
Oh dear, Oh dear, what ever are we coming too?
These headlines [below] are really shattering to mankind. How on earth are we going to survive.
Needless to say, I only copied these important headlines. I'm too scared to read the rest . . . I won't sleep tonight! :D :D :D

Who are these people?
Should know them?
Should care about them?
I suspect they live in a type of parallel universe that occasionally I catch a glipse of but has no bearing on the real the universe that I and most of the world lives in.

This has been going on for the last 45 years at least. Real news, disasters, politics and other news has been slowly disappearing in favour of self publicised 'celebrities' who are 'famous' for being famous. I don't know any of the people mentioned by the OP. It is possible to get real news but even the BBC morning news has this rubbish after 8.30am now.

The big news here is that my bootlace snapped. A full scale crisis was avoided when I managed to salvage one out of an old training shoe. Do you find that shoe laces don't quite last as long as they did hence a sort of dumbing down in the manufacturing of shoelaces? But yes these dumb ass celebs do seem to get more attention than they deserve. It is what the people want afterall.

The laces on my Merrel walking trainer thingies started to fray after about 2 weeks, and maybe 10 miles. Disgraceful!

I find that celebrities don't last as long as they did, which I'm grateful for, though someone keeps finding others to replace them which is a bit of a bu@@er really :?

Well, the old ones have been hogging the fame for far too long - the way it's going, soon enough everybody will be famous for 15 minutes, no more, no less.

Another example of dumbing down is in the Newspapers a few weeks ago they were shouting the odd about beer being sold as cheap as 40p a pint as loss leaders. Well since this great newspaper expose* I've been looking for these so called branded beers, and guess what? I've been to all the supermarkets [not specifically for beer] but I've yet to spot any. Not of course to say that there are some very good bargains to be had for drinkers but not quite 40p a pint. It's just that I had to prove to myself that that well known phrase "Newspaper claptrap" is still alive and kicking now as it was at the time when some well known person coined the phrase.

Breaking news:

Ireland 's worst air disaster occurred early this morning when a small two-seater Cessna plane crashed into a cemetery.

Irish search and rescue workers have recovered 1826 bodies so far and expect that number to climb as digging continues into the night.
