Difficult to say. As the OP has not returned to the thread after no more than a few minutes I suspect he was trolling.

Gaz I do believe that to be unfair, as he works for the private sector he might just be having to do some work.

Or more likely the light has gone out so he has had to evacuate the work place.

Back on subject. I wonder if a proper risk assessment has been done on the screw in type of bulb in comparison the the bayonet type.
Do we need more forum members to do this?

Nope, the OP is enjoying a week off work (a freebie no less) having just completed his project. He's currently in his workshop making low profile clamps for his milling machine.
Although he's also pondering whether a new form of bulb holder designed for 'quick' change might be in order.

His biggest worry is that with budget cuts that the light at the end of the tunnel may need to be 'turned off'.

This afternoon I have to go for an interview at the Place That Drives You Mad for an interview. This is for them to decide if they will represent me next Wednesday when the Judge could well turn my light off.

The OP was lurking and waiting to see if any bright sparks would take notice.

I'm glad that the OP has returned to the forum to shed some more light on the subject.

I thought that it was a proven scientific fact that the so called light at the end of the tunnel is nothing other than the distant glow from the roaring fires of hell.

May I take this opportunity to ask forum members to support their LBS

In the present economic climate it is possible to forget the much valued resource. Where can we get emergency replacement so quickly. The Internet has problems with some stockists claiming stock, only to disappoint with delivery. Some leave people in the dark totally.
The larger chain stores employ people who have no technical knowledge and are not able to help with the unusual items we all need.

So please suport your LBS (Local Bulb Shop)

Indeed :)

My back of envelope calculation is that my DIY LED lamps will need replacing after about 266 winters - though the water and vibration will probably have messed up the other electronics by then ...

Do we have to have a pair of bulbs?

Surely, a single one would be uni-bulbist.

How many panniers does it take to transport one light bulb?

I do feel this is a little bit negative.

However before we get poles apart.

As LED's and torch bulbs have been mentioned, it might be help full if there was a poll to decide exactly was is in discussion. Then we would have a positive decision

Maybe kwakers would care to shed some light on this illuminating subject.

Historically, given how many 'off topic' posts I've made, I don't feel morally qualified to make this decision. Sorry, but you're on your own...
