just cycling into the Massif Central area, which seems to have pro-cycling races going on. by accident I managed to get in front of a race, by about 10 or 15 minutes. Did about 5 km's with lots of people lining the roads waving and cheering; and some simply looking baffled that this was not the cyclist they were expecting to come through first !

Excellent! I 'won' the Beast of Brecon MTB race last year (fully loaded on the tourer). Anyone else inadvertently entered a race?
Re: vous êtes le premier !
Many years ago myself and a young Mrs Ambodach were touring in northern Belgium. We came into a small town and noticed a lot of flags flying and a lack of motorised traffic. The place was obviously en-fete. We continued on into the town centre with crowds gathering at the sides and we got a few cheers as we continued in. The cheers got louder and I looked behind. Horrors, a peleton was bearing down on us at a vast speed and we had no time to get out of the way. The only thing to do was freeze as small as possible as the race tore past on either side. Fortunately nobody hit us and we scurried into the crowd who thought the whole thing was a great joke and all part of the day's entertainment. OK it was only a local kermesse but they take these things pretty seriously. We were lucky to get off with it.

On the TCT last year, we inadvertently stumbled into a Triathalon's cycle stage..
Going uphill, lot's of lycra clad "good mornings" wizzing past two us huffing and puffing on our Roadsters..
At the crest of the hill, two cheeky grins and a "shall we?" - a click of the trigger and into the barely-used top gear..
Going downhill, two grinning manically and "good mornings" as they wizzed past all the lycra!
The moral of the story is, a roadster goes downhill ALOT faster than Carbon Fibre goes up it!

I've had a dream like that. But the bike won't go over the finishing line and then I woke up in a sweat.
