Looking forward to the Christmas break and planning what films to watch (especially golden oldies) and got round to debating with the family our top 3 favourite films of all time. Although not golden oldies these these are my favourites of modern times, just can't decide the order....
Bladerunner - great Vangelis music, Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer in top form and superb direction from Ridley Scott to make what must be one of the best sci fi films of all time.
The Shawshank Redemption - "either get busy living or get busy dying" says it all really!
Saving Private Ryan - what an opening 5 minutes. It just rams home the horrors of war.
As for the golden oldies there are too many to mention, but a mug of Gluhwein, a nice traditional Christmas dinner and then curl up to watch some classic oldies.......can't wait.
Only problem might be the 3 women in my life who love chick flicks, so might have to go out for a ride when they have control of the remote!

In no particular order
1. Dances with Wolves .... Excellent - nothing more to say.
2. Iron Will ...... based on a true story - brilliant.
3 The Spy Who Loved me (Bond Movie) .... I was in my early teens when it was released. Saw it 5 times over the school summer holidays.

Recently reread all the Bond books. Except for the recent Casino Royale all the others are nothing compared to the books. Although the books are now quaint only Daniel Craig ever captured the real cold killer that was Bond.
Anything by the Cohens rocks but Oh Brother is the greatest. Who can forget that moment when Jack Nicholson holds out his hand to the head Martian and says 'can't we all get along? ' and the Martian skewers him!!!

Reuse, recycle, thus do your bit to save the planet.... Get stuff at auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Car Boots. Choose an Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can......

Whenever I see a repeat on the tele of something I saw and enjoyed years ago, I usually end up thinking "What on Earth did people use to see in this?" Either the attitudes seem outmoded or the filming techniques are dated. Recently, I've repeatedly watched Madagascar with my grandchildren at their insistence and always enjoyed it. Probably the arrival of my second childhood - "Smile and wave boys."

PS I'll nominate the Olivier wartime version of Henry V and there was a good Hamlet filmed in Russia with English subtitles. I looked on Wiki and the Russian version they mention was made in 1964 which must be after the one I have in mind.

The film opens to the sound of a gramophone playing Axxon N, “the longest-running radio play in history”. Meanwhile, a young woman, identified in the credits as the "Lost Girl", cries while watching television, trapped in hotel room 47 by the Phantom. The Lost Girl’s television displays a family of surreal anthropomorphic rabbits who speak in cryptic statements. These three elements become recurring motifs throughout Inland Empire. Laura Dern plays two characters linked to the Lost Girl who seek to free themselves from the curse of the Phantom.
Apocalypse Now Redux
"Willard: Saigon... ****; I'm still only in Saigon... Every time I think I'm gonna wake up back in the jungle. When I was home after my first tour, it was worse. I'd wake up and there'd be nothing. I hardly said a word to my wife, until I said yes to a divorce. When I was here, I wanted to be there; when I was there, all I could think of was getting back into the jungle. I'm here a week now... waiting for a mission... getting softer; every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker, and every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets stronger. Each time I looked around, the walls moved in a little tighter."

Nada, a down-on-his-luck construction worker, discovers a pair of special sunglasses. Wearing them, he is able to see the world as it really is: people being bombarded by media and government with messages like "Stay Asleep", "No Imagination", "Submit to Authority". Even scarier is that he is able to see that some usually normal-looking people are in fact ugly aliens in charge of the massive campaign to keep humans subdued.

picking 3 is pretty hard, there are so many great films...
pulp fiction is one i can easily watch every time it is on.
both kill bill's are a must
despicable me, i challenge anyone not to laugh at it

I am no great film fan, I prefer books, but one I always enjoy is The Titfield Thunderbolt. This is because it was mainly filmed on location in the area I grew up in. My father was an extra in it, and I remember being taken to see the engine parked up in a siding during filming in 1953. If I have to choose two others I will say any Carry On films
