You're most unfavourite sky scraper
You're most unfavourite sky scraper
Following on from the "Favourite Pier" thread which,to my eye are just as unsightly as a sky scraper only laid flat,I'd like to nominate the Hilton Hotel Manchester as one of,if not the most ugly, out of proprtion with its surrounds, building that I've ever seen.
The worry is that at some point more of these monstrosities will be built.

We don't have skyscrapers round here, but we certainly have an ugly tall building!

My nomination would be the (now redundant) Express Lifts high speed lift testing tower. http://www.bbc.co.uk/northamptonshire/360/tower.shtml
Though a prominent local landmark liked by most local residents, I see it as just an ugly concrete tube.

This is I'm most unfavourite - it makes me a bit depressed every time I approach Waterloo.
Re: You're most unfavourite sky scraper
If photo-free posts are allowed, may I nominate the hotel in Aviemore? Some hideous 60s concrete monstrosity.
(I think my parents spent their honeymoon there. This does not alter my option of the building...)

Of course it's a race...

No longer with its original owner but not redundant - http://www.nationallifttower.co.uk/
Ugly though.

I quite like it. I've been in the bottom but they wouldn't let me go up top

The one that makes me cringe is the Gherkin. In our house we call it the Suppository.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

Well I never knew that. It's gone well past it's design life so good to know that the company I used to work for made a good product

There was a proposal by an adventure leisure company to put a zip-wire on it so you could do around 300ft of freefall off it
I've not heard anything for the past year as to whether this is to go ahead. I'd be tempted to give it a go if it did.

This one is a Grade 2 listed building!

Here is a tall mushroom. There is an extra point if anyone knows what and where it is.
No jam doughnuts stored here overnight

I think that listing such things is fair enough - after all we have lost so much heritage that was pulled down just because it didn't fit with current tastes at the time but is now sadly missed. Not that I'm saying that all such examples should be listed, but a representative sample. Indeed, we all hate hi-rise tower blocks these days but I've heard of some being preserved and turned into a museum, much like the Back to Backs in Birmingham were (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/birming ... -to-backs/)

none of the suggestions between your OP and this reply even come close. it really is worse than you describe.
