Jimmy Savile

Postby Si » 4 Oct 2012, 2:27pm

Alas, I asked nicely but the thread continued to go down a route that I asked that it did not, thus it's now gone.

If someone wants to start from scratch they can, but the warning continues to be in force - please don't make it personal about other forum users and how you interpret what they might or might not have said and what they might or might not have meant. If you do carry on in this tack then please don't complain if find that your post is gone and your time is wasted.

Ah well, I guess you can't please all the people all the time, or even some of the people...... . But I think that if we take anything from this sorry state of affairs it is this: when answering another post in a discussion it is always better to ask people exactly what they meant and give them the benefit of the doubt rather to "shoot first and ask questions later". And if we all try to assume the best of others until the contrary is proven beyond doubt then the forum will be a happier place will it not?

Anyway if you have departed for good, thelawnet, I hope you find a new forum that suits you better than this and that you can enjoy more - bye!

I hope "here" means the thread about JS. I for one would miss your contributions to this forum.

Is there anything left to discuss?

The only thing I'd like to add is I'm glad he wasn't a cyclist...

Jimmy Savile was a semi pro racing cyclist in the early fifties riding the Tour of Britain and other high level British races.

I suppose fourthing this (is that a word?) may either just make his departure sweeter for him or hopefully encourage his return. I would hope no-one leaves the forum due to a post about a deceased DJ. As regards moderation I would say to thelawnet, his sacrifice in accepting the mod's decision is what makes this forum work (i.e. not only the moderation but the fact that we grin and bear it as a sometimes unpleasant but necessary part of keeping the forum functional).
Let's just get Brexit done so that we can get on with the important job of re-joining the EU!

It's rather interesting how all these revelations have emerged publicly in the news after all the mementoes has been auctioned off as souvenirs and cash presumably distributed to the various recipients. I expect there will be a wealth of returned bequests that'll have to go to the exchequer!!

Looks like the value of one's investments can go down as well as up...
