The Longest Day
The Longest Day
Tomorrow is the longest day of the year.
Has anybody ever done anything to exploit the (man made) fact?
Though the time of year spoils most ideas.

Tomorrow morning (Sun 28th Oct) at 02:00, the clocks go back to 01:00 making tomorrow 25hrs long.

Ignoring arbitrary numbering systems, the Earth's rotation is slowing therefore tomorrow is the longest day.
Re: The Longest Day
If we all run in the same direction can we make it spin faster?

Re: The Longest Day
Actually the day length fluctuates quite considerably - the wind on the mountains being one of the significant influences. We would only affect it if we *kept* running, and even then only a tiny amount.

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

yep. I'd forgotten what a PITA changing the clocks back and forth is for anybody working nights.Mick F wrote:... Tomorrow morning (Sun 28th Oct) at 02:00, the clocks go back to 01:00 making tomorrow 25hrs long.
This will be one of the big benefits of the referendum about independence for Scotland. Once that's over, I predict it will be the end of GMT in winter for E&W. We'll have BST all the year round. (Remember where you read this first.)

If I could get my dogs to understand the concept of clocks going back, I'd have another hour in bed.

I trained my cat to not bother me until it heard me up and about. Surely it's not beyond the wit of a dog?
Re: The Longest Day
Came back from Majorca today and that's an hour in front. So tomorrow I will have gained 2 hours compared with yesterday. ( I think)

Re: The Longest Day
I will waste at least an hour tomorrow morning trying to work out how to reset the time on all my different bike computers. I have tried to standardise, but the manufacturers keep 'upgrading' and introducing new models. It's worse in the spring, of course.

I don't bother to change 'em, Somehow they seem to come right again later in the year.

I find it harder putting digital clocks back an hour.
Re: The Longest Day
We have a couple of wind-up striking clocks.
I just stopped them for an hour or more, then I'll restart them, then put them right. Funny how quiet it is in here without the ticking.
