Don’t cultivate a “bicycle face"

That one had me. Google to the rescue. Seems I'm not the only one baffled by the term:

Well if Dr Shadwell coined the term bicycle face then I suspect the more enduring term "quack" was coined straight afterwards in his honour.

Don’t contest the right of way with cable cars.

"Cable cars" meaning trams?

That's sound advice for 1895 and today.

Perhaps Dr Shadwell was a comedian? As far as I can tell his definition of bicycle face is "concentrating on something."
