Re: TV licensing...
Hi MickF, send me your address and I'll send you a new line in threatening letters!
They really do need to personalize the menace, aim for your weak points, maybe even ambush you on the way to the pub? MM

Hi,
You got the internet
You don't have to break any laws to put a message to them...................on the other hand don't bother.
I put it to Spotlight that "its not a race"............
There answer was to air in a program............
"Its not a race but...................these two teams came home first in there class"
They were the only teams that they interviewed.
And you can guess that the school who normally come first and another school affiliated to the first school...who came fist in the class they entered, are also a Selective school........... whatever.
Yep one are in the top 100 select schools...thats england as there are no in scotland and wales.
You couldn't make it up

Re: TV licensing...
Hi all, I'm feeling neglected? MickF keeps on getting fan mail from TV licensing, even though he states he doesn't actually need one, though I think he ought to get his day in Court? He could then Affirm, then let rip into the inefficient mob!
I on the other hand do have a TV Licence, paying over the odds by going quarterly, yet feel ripped off by those who claim not to need one but take advantage of the fact that programmes are available on a number other "Platforms"!
Another irksome point is that we now have the Beeb putting stuff on Britbox, which I believe is a subscription service? Their participation in that service is funded, at least in part, by us mugs.
Most Britbox output was created using licence payers dosh, so it means we've already paid for it?
But to rub salt into the wound is the fact that I keep finding menacing missives in my e:mail in-box? Spam for sure, but annoying non the less! Why can such crepe be allowed to be used???
As I creep nearer to the once magical 75 years it hurts even more, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. IGICB MM

Re: TV licensing...
We don't need a TVL because ................ we don't have a telly and we don't watch live BBCTV on our computers or use BBC iPlayer.
We don't see why we should fill in their forms to state the above fact. We used to, but are now refusing to even reply to them.
34 threatening letters received so far. One a month, and not one replied to, and we have no intention of ever replying either.
I say again ......... it they would write a real letter couched personally, signed by a real person, and asking nicely and politely for us to get in touch, we would do.
Instead, it's threat threat treat on pre-printed repetitive "letters" stamp-signed by a non-existent and fictitious person.
They can go and get stuffed!

Re: TV licensing...
Agreed on all those points MickF, but do you have an opinion of the "Britbox" situation???
The only thing more annoying than all of the TV Licencing crepe is the stupid threatening adverts at the front of legitimately purchased DVD's, "Piracy Is Theft"! All my discs are kosher, yet I can't fast forward through the menace. MM

Until you mentioned Britbox, I'd never heard of it.

Looks like Netflix?
We have a Netflix account at £5.99 a month and Mrs Mick F uses it most evenings on her laptop. Can't remember the last time I accessed Netflix.

PS:
You can record all your DVDs using MakeMKV or similar.
The program removes all the trailers and the guff. You're not selling the copies or making a profit, so no-one gets hurt. Record them onto a hard drive to watch on any device in your home.
You own the DVD, so you can do with it what you please.

A good program that since it is in perpetual beta you have to download and update every month or so as it stops working

Hi, So it's not "Plug N Play" enough for a noodle like me to use? Remember I have to read the instruction to use a box of matches! MM

You don't own the copyright. In England and Wales a Private Use Exemption was introduced in 2014 but it was overturned in 2015. TTBOMK it hasn't been replaced by something lawful. Happy to be corrected.

What does it say on the back of a DVD box?
It says ............ looked at a couple of random ones .......... amongst other things ...........you can't hire them or lend them.
Have you ever lent a DVD to someone?
Have you ever borrowed one and not given it back?
Has anyone ever given one to you?
Have you ever rented one?
DVDs change hands in charity shops for less than a quid each.
Does it really matter that you copy them?
