Bottle or something else?

Postby breakwellmz » 19 Sep 2014, 8:07am

Dug this up the other day. It`s about seven inches long, very thick earthenware, no markings. To me It doesn`t have the feel or dimensions for a bottle and wondered if it might be something else, an insulator maybe?

Does it have (or look as if it once had) a stopper at the neck end, and is it closed at the other end? It could be an old-fashioned bed-warmer (pre-dating hot-water bottles). I can recall such things when I was a kid.
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.

Having done a bit more research(Looking at Google images)it looks likely to be a`blacking bottle`.
