Charity Song

Postby Psamathe » 19 Nov 2014, 11:25pm

Seeing as we've been blessed with another Geldof "Do they know about christmas", maybe it's time to remember all those other great charity songs that don't reach No1.

One classic that is possible better viewed in the context of the film, from Wag The Dog (for those who don't know the film, its about US politics where shortly before the US Presidential Elections a scandal breaks about the president and to distract the electorate a "war" is started - except it is a fictional war ... and you can't have a war without things like a "charity song").

And a more obvious "fight back" "Radi-Aid" (Africa helping the Norwegians)

There must be loads of other brilliant ones out there.

I've never heard a 'Christmas Pop Song' that didn't turn me into a pre-Marley's-Ghost Scrooge in about 0.3 seconds, charity or otherwise.
Mistletoe and wine is, I think, the worst to date, though the competition is fierce, makes me want to throw up whenever I hear it.

May fav charity ditty (not a spoof) was Right Said Fred's 'Stick it Out' for Comic Relief

"Clean your teeth with your feet, hug a bus or two. Take a sprout for a walk, make a saaaand igloo. And if they fail to see it, stick it out so they can feel it!"
