Earlier this year, Helen Moat ( a colleague of mine) and her teenage son, Jamie, left their home in The Peak District and cycled together from Rotterdam to Istanbul. Neither of them had experience of long-distance cycle touring, but what they both had was a thirst for adventure. Some people would wait until they get the right bike for the job, but not this woman. She rode off on a dutch-style bike on a journey that would last three months. What follows is her heartfelt reflections from that trip.
