Day rides around Crieff

Post by ernest »

I am looking for some advice about day rides (50-70 miles) in the Crieff area in early September. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Plenty of choice, just look at a map and take your pick, the only road to avoid really is the A9, everything else is great cycling country, minor roads especially.

There's a useful back road to Comrie from Crieff for routes going west. Then you must join the can-be-busyish road to St Fillans going west but the delightful south L Earn roads takes you to Lochearnhead where you can join N7 and the old railway line viaduct route (recommended, good views) to the head of Glen Ogle then down to Killin and L Tay where the south side road is good. You can also go up and over to the v pretty Glen Lyon via the Ben Lawers road, decent climb.
The Glen Quaich, Sma' Glen A822, A826 and A827 circuit of Amulree and Kenmore, is one I'd definitely recommend to a masochist. Terrific hill and views++.
Going east to Perth, use the B8063 or the v minor Tibbermore to Madderty. There are some nice short runs around Kinkell Bridge and Auchterarder and Dunning.
Its a really great area to just make stuff up using a map and minor roads as was said earlier.
