Hi
Please can anyone tell me what has happened to that vast library of routes - mostly members write ups of their own tours - that used to be available on the old CTC website. I can't find it on the new CUK site. Hopefully it's still available somewhere?
Thanks
Ian
Tours library?
Re: Tours library?
Do you mean http://www.ctc-maps.org.uk/ ?
Note the warning: "much of the content of this website has been moved to other sites [no indication where, though], and this site will be retired completely in the coming months".
I suspect, in this context, "retired completely" means "removed completely".

Re: Tours library?
Well that's pretty grim, does nobody know if they have a new home?
Re: Tours library?
Never mind whether they are there are not - my experience was that they were so old and out-of-date as to be of only scant use - sadly as the whole idea of a routes library is a tremendous asset.

Re: Tours library?
Thanks MuirSR. Yes that's what I was looking for.
It's true that much of the information is dated but some of it isn't; transport and accommodation details can change very quickly and it would be foolish not to check these with service providers anyway. Other things change only slowly if at all; there can be nuggets of information in even old route sheets about the look and feel of a route. And sometimes the oldest ones can be interesting simply as historic cycling touring documents. In any case, nobody is compelled to look at them; if you don't find them worth consulting, then don't. So why remove them? Ah yes perhaps their existence is not compatible with the correct image now that we are CyclingUK.

I only looked a few times and found them out of date. Haven't looked for years.
Nonetheless, if you think they are a valuable resource why not try to do something about their loss? Maybe contact CUK and ask them for an explanation. Then if they are being deleted, maybe look into some way of retaining them.
