Ach, city of course! My mistake.

IIRC, one of the cycle routes into Cambridge, approaching from the south, I followed an old Roman road which wasn't much more than a muddy farm track. I try to be off-road capable with my rig, but it was decidedly get-off-and-push territory for miles. Cambridge itself is awesome for bikes.
