Dijon to Montpellier suggestions

We're heading next week to cycle from Dijon to Montpellier over the course of 11 days on the bike camping on route.

Has anyone cycled this route before and got any pointers / things to make sure we don't pass on by?

Hi

I don't like the River Rhone route. I would prefer to stay to the west of Lyon but it is not flat.
My favourite area would be the Ardeche, Uzes, Pont du Gard then on to Nimes.

Also it is going to be hot!

Is there any particular reason your don't like the river route? Too flat / too boring / too Industrial?

And it is still not a joined up "River route" that said there are some interesting places along there
