cinque terre - is the road busy?

Postby andy_scot_uk » 3 Sep 2017, 6:06am

Visiting Italy in two weeks and looking at cycling cinque terre on the sp13 road. Does anyone know if this is this a really busy road with buses and cars? Opencycle map shows two routes - the road or a mountain bike track. Anyone done either? My friends prefer quiet country roads and don't mix well with buses and lorries. The walk way is our other option (walking).

On a Friday afternoon and Sunday evening, the road is extremely busy with busses, cars, caravans, etc. It's a popular weekend destination for Italians. You are outside the main holiday season, so it's shouldn't be too bad at other times, though I might still try to avoid it at peak times.

In the middle of the day on a weekday, it should be a nice ride.

I'm not sure about the mountain bike track. You can check It's not the most user friendly site, but the information is reliable. And they also have a forum, if you don't find what you're looking for. If you don't speak Italian, it's better to post in English than to use a translator. Or you can maybe ask one of our Italian forumites, ConRAD or Serbring for help.
