cinque terre - is the road busy?

Postby andy_scot_uk » 3 Sep 2017, 6:06am

Hi

Visiting Italy in two weeks and looking at cycling cinque terre on the sp13 road. Does anyone know if this is this a really busy road with buses and cars? Opencycle map shows two routes - the road or a mountain bike track. Anyone done either? My friends prefer quiet country roads and don't mix well with buses and lorries. The walk way is our other option (walking).

Cheers

Andy

On a Friday afternoon and Sunday evening, the road is extremely busy with busses, cars, caravans, etc. It's a popular weekend destination for Italians. You are outside the main holiday season, so it's shouldn't be too bad at other times, though I might still try to avoid it at peak times.

In the middle of the day on a weekday, it should be a nice ride.

I'm not sure about the mountain bike track. You can check https://www.piste-ciclabili.com/ It's not the most user friendly site, but the information is reliable. And they also have a forum, if you don't find what you're looking for. If you don't speak Italian, it's better to post in English than to use a translator. Or you can maybe ask one of our Italian forumites, ConRAD or Serbring for help.
