I've just come back from a 2 week tour of the Inner and Outer Hebrides and it was fantastic! I've been there several times, but this one I think was the best yet. Even though the weather wasn't fantastic, there was enough fine weather between the showers. I went to Barra first, then stayed at the excellent Howmore hostel on S Uist as a base for some day cycles, met some good people there. Then headed back to Barra and wild camped on Coll and Tiree which was amazing! Well, apart from on Coll in the morning the wind had dropped and it was Midge-aggedon! On the ferry back to Oban from Coll there was a large school of dolphins bow-riding in front of the ferry! Then I went to Mull and cycled the central 50 mile loop which has to be one of the most scenic rides in the country. I could have stayed a bit longer but the weather started to deteriorate. Next time I go I think I will try and time it with the good weather and perhaps earlier in the year when the midges aren't so bad.
