Anyone ridden this lately ? My memories from some years ago are of a busy main road - I know there are better options but I'd like to know if it's still a rideable proposition.

The col itself may be OK because the traffic will mostly go through the tunnel, but the approach road from Tarascon is very busy, and I imagine, similar on the other side. I've never actually ridden the col because of how unpleasant the approach is.

And to add, there are very obvious quiet alternatives to the east.

Much as expected. I have ridden the obvious alternative along the Corniche from Tarascon and the Col de Marmare which is pleasant and quiet.
Also gone to Axat via Lavelanet and over the Col de Jau.
I was just interested in the current situation on the Col du Puymorens - doesn't seem promising.

Only ever descended that road. I have twice done the climb from the other side. It didn't seem too busy but descending is different from climbing with trucks passing you closely.
