Hi all,
after three years of trips on warm places, which are Tajikistan, China and Namibia, I am considering to go a remote and cold place. So, my mind came up with Greenland. From a web search, almost none people attempted to go there. Is there anyone here who cycled in Greenland? How was it? My plan would be to go there on August.
Thanks

Re: Bike trip in Greenland
There are only a total of 150 km of roads in the whole country and only 60 km of these are paved.
I hope you like off road riding.

Having had a quick scan on google earth, it looks like most roads are those within the villages, and the only place where they extend further than a couple of miles out of the village is the area around Thule air base, where I suspect you wouldn't be able to go.
Re: Bike trip in Greenland
There are some commercial companies who do tours
Fatbike Greenland is simply an example
Do be aware that these are really remote, unforgiving places so solo or unsupported tours are not really that practical. I was in Svalbard in February and the sheer breathtaking beauty and otherworldly atmosphere are a unique experience, but there is literally within there and the dangers are always present.
I would say that going somewhere like Greenland or Svalbard is a must, to be in the situation where there are only a few hundred people further north than you, (and that there will only be 200 or 300 other tourists at the time you visit) is a magical thought, especially when you are inteh most Northern hotel in the world

I have seen it and I was thinking to do off-riding mainly because I have never done an off-road bike trip

that link made me think to Greenland as a possibile destination for a bike trip but that solution is really too pricey.

Yuo're on right in fact I am just thinking of a trip there. Actually, I am pondering all the possible pros and cons. How was Svalbard?
Re: Bike trip in Greenland
One of the reasons not to go solo & unescorted in either Greenland or Svalbard are polar bears. There are quite strict rules in Svalbard about visitors wandering around. With global warning, conflicts with hungry polar bears are going up. By all means, go. But if you want to do some cycling, it's best done with locals or an organised trip.
