Road cycling in Dallas, Texas

I am going to a conference in late April to Dallas, Texas and was wondering if anyone has experience of renting a bike and getting out of the city to do some road cycling? Or even to do some MTB if the roads are not very good? Any advice would be welcomed. I’ll be there for about 5 or 6 days, so will get time for early morning/evening rides plus one or two day rides if I am lucky. Thanks
