It's always annoyed me that vans and motorhomes are allowed on the Heysham to Ireland ferries but not cars and cycles. I live at most an hour slow ride from the port and quite fancy an Irish tour but I'd have to go via the Isle of Man. That's a long journey time, effectively knocking off a whole day on each end of the trip.
Anyone else think this? Admittedly I've a vested interest since I could do a door to door cycle ride if they took bikes.
Why no cycles on Heysham to Ireland ferries?

I guess it is primarily a freight service
May one go as a foot passenger?
Does seem a bit perverse, legislation is needed!

Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

If it's a freight service (Which I'm pretty sure it is) it'll still be permitted to carry passengers, but the numbers will be limited.
In my youth, I cadged a lift with drivers on several freight services, but I expect those days are long gone (Along with my youth!)
