AirAsia filmed rough handling bikes. Apologises and bikes go free in April

Post by simonhill »

The title says it all.

See it here. https://www.google.com/amp/s/coconuts.c ... ree-april/

I doubt many other airlines would do this.

Personally I've flown lots of times with bike on AirAsia and never had a problem.

Ive seen a certain irish airline do a lot worse.....unpacked bike hurled up onto a 6ft high pile of luggage from some distance, then a surf board flung onto it.

I was thinking it was along the lines of the sort of handling I would expect.... it did not look that rough, having had my own bike box tip over a couple of times... I don't think the jolt those boxes received was much worse than that jolt.... if the gear broke that easily maybe it was badly packed?

Agree entirely.

Credit to the Airline with a good response though. Not all its competitors are so savvy.

Aye well, I've seen the members of a prestigious cycling organization cramming bagged bikes into a bus-trailer after a 1000k, and they weren't exactly gentle either.

Once stuff is wrapped, people tend to think that it's proof against everything - out of sight, out of mind. I once saw a chum who had just wrapped up a set of sherry glasses with great care put them into a removals carton then plonk a steam iron down on top. Crunch.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

First rule of flying with a bike

Protect your rear mech.

Second rule, protect your front forks.
