Ok thanks. So taking appart half of the bike is the norm if you want to have a nice ride without missing or broking half of the parts.
I have to do it twice since the wife is coming with me.

You aren't removing anything major and the mudguards are already set up so just a simple bolt job (don't remove the stays!) you may need to remove the pedals to box up, make sure you take suitable tools for that as you'll have to do it on the return too.
