You ....... or someone else asked me that.Cyril Haearn wrote:Whatabout learning the Cornish language?
Not good at language, and I have enough difficulty with English!
Mrs Mick F did a course on Cornish some few years ago, so she's the lady to ask, not me!

We had a great half-day of it. Oldest two grandchildren now both on the back of tandems, and left them wanting more.sjs wrote: ↑7 Sep 2021, 11:44pmNow you've reminded me, I just might. 10 September this year:Vorpal wrote: ↑27 Aug 2018, 11:44amThe Essex Churches Trust version used to be called 'Ride & Stride'. I'm not sure if it still is.sjs wrote:Slightly OT, but there is a sponsored "bike and hike" event widely held on the second Saturday in September, whereby one cycles or walks, ticking off participating churches (C of E, Catholic, Methodist,no doubt others) as one goes, the idea being to be sponsored on a per church basis. I've often done it, in later years with my children, usually making a donation rather than pestering people for sponsorship. If you like tea and cake, it's great.
I just googled the Herts and Beds version to check; September the 8th.
There is also an annual pedal round historic churches in Suffolk & Essex that I don't recall the name of. I think one of the cycling clubs do it in conjunction with their local parish church to raise money for the church. I never went on either, but have freinds who do them.

with links to how it's organised in each area.
We use this as a family event.
And also to encourage people to get back on their bikes. That includes the offer of free servicing to anyone in the village.

Re: Parish Churches
I used to do this when it was the Historic Churches Bike Ride back in the 1980s.
Great fun planning routes to visit as many churches & chapels in the day. Far too many cups of tea to make truly great progress though!

Yes, the mileage is always very low, but it's fun along the way.
For sheer church bagging there's the temptation to visit central Oxford and Abingdon but we resist. : - )

Re: Parish Churches
I used to plan rural routes in Herts and Beds, averaging about 2 miles per church. Usually circular, but once managed a one-way trip ending up in Lavenham, Suffolk.

Home.
1 x 1 yr old, 2 x 2yr old, 1 x 6 yr old, 1 x 9 yr old and assorted adults.
Lovely day out, with lunch behind Dorchester Abbey. Ground still hard which helped a lot with the trailed devices on the bridleways.
About twenty other cyclists seen all day. : - (

PS: We decided not to reposition the pennants.

Did you pass the Church in Tincleton? Mrs Rjb's great grandad was the Sexton here. Biggest headstone in the cemetry. Well he was the grave digger too.
