Just going through plans for the next few rides, and using the superb link that Thirdcrank put forward.

I've done them all in East Wivelshire, and a few in Trigg Major so far .................. but this is where I come up against some anomalies.

Are you visiting Anglican churches only? What about catholic chutches, chapels etc?
Bet there is a mosque in Plymouth, is there one in Cornwall?

Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

Just asking but would the other churches/mosque be classed as "parish churches" ?

A few years back I used to go to Herefordshire and the ride leader took us to various interesting churches. Most were classed as "redundant" but were kept in fettle by the Churches Conservation Trust. One had a thatched roof but apparently there are quite a few of these scattered about. Another is built in a farmyard at Pixley which we were lead to believe was so the farm workers could be back at work after service. Probably not true but :-

I initially wondered why there were so many small churches in the area until I saw a painting dating back a couple of hundred years. It depicted an agricultural scene and scores of people working in the fields - QED.

Preston Wynne church in Herefordshire is in the middle of a field (OS SO 558466)

Not so long ago people lived in villages all their lives, if they were lucky they might go to Hereford market once a year

Some quite small places (Dilwyn, Weobley) have grand churches and some have detached bell towers

My little book lists six churches in Herefordshire in places called "Llan.."

One of my favourite "Churches in a field' is St Huberts at Idsworth

A mere 368 mile return ride from the Cornish border, so perhaps not a day ride

Chapel or church? Was it always alone, or did the village migrate?

It is probably truly a Chapel, but is known locally as "The Church in the fields" these are relatively common in Hampshire. Both Church and Chapel are used

Some discussion about this. The Church is built in 1053 and therefore predates the Domesday recording, but no village is listed

Back in the 70's and 80's I was a regular user of the rail service (Raleigh, Drake, Stonehouse) and there was almost always an announcement at Plymouth along the lines of...

The next stop is Saltash, this is in Cornwall, please have your passports ready
The next stop is Saltash, we will now be leaving civilisation as we know it
The next stop is Saltash, this is in Cornwall, they are all funny buggers from now on

It was stopped in the late 80's after complaints.

However I am sure there would be English natives who could support your foray and help you with local customs or traditions .....

I also had my weekend leave stopped when the "Cornish Republican Army" (Later Cornish National Liberation Army) claimed to have placed a bomb on the Tamar Bridge. The Navy was responsible for patrolling the area of water, and as the Medical teams, we were on standby.......hence stoppage of leave.

Lewannick and Lezant completed.
32mile round trip.
That's 29 Parish Churches done so far.
In excess of 180 to do yet.

Yesterday's foray took me temporarily over the border into bandit country, and crossed back over the Tamar just east of Launceston on the Old A30. I took my passport just in case someone over the border needed to see it.

Actually, as it happens, they're closing the border here next week. There's temporary traffic lights up and long tail-backs of traffic, but the road will be closed as from Monday I believe.

The retaining wall of a house on the road down to the bridge is collapsing, so there's remedial work required, plus they're doing roadworks right on the bridge entrance.
Also, yesterday, there was a gas leak too!
