Mills, not just windmills, used to be ubiquitous but many have disappeared or been converted and are now unrecognisable, just think of how many roads and places are named after them
Very few churches have gone, thank the Lord

Might be worth starting a thread about mills, they have a future too

Not many windmills down this end. You get them where there are cereal crops, much arable farming here.

I should get back to my Parish Churches again in the next week or so. Schedule to follow when I've worked it out.

Why, not much wind in Cornwall? Bet the mines used to have watermills

No, not at all!
When I first started this quest 29th August last year, I started going in a few, and took photos outside too, but TBH, they're all starting to look alike to me. Not been in one for months, and now all I'm doing is making the point of riding past the gates and eyeballing the churches.

We were given a book of walks in Cornwall aimed at dog owners. Each walk is described where the carparks are, and any dog-friendly pubs and cafes on route.
ISBN 978-0-85025-448-8
https://www.gettextbooks.co.uk/isbn/9780850254488/

Walk No.8 is from Penryn/Flushing to Mylor, and I can drive down there with Mrs Mick F and Sailor (our 4m old puppy) with Moulton in the back of the car, and they can walk to Mylor whilst I park up and do another ten churches. I can then drive to Mylor (cafe and car park) meet up for a cuppa and a sarnie, then drive home again!

Two birds with one stone. Sailor and Mrs Mick F get a good five mile walk along the Cornish coast, and I get a ride to parish churches!

More walks way down west to look into yet. :D

A few facts.

So far:
191 parish churches done over 26 rides
876.7miles ridden
33.72miles per ride.

Forecast to do another 114miles over three more rides to do the 35 churches that are still left.

Making 990miles to have done all 226 parish churches.
Pity it's not the magic 1,000miles ............................ so I'll see what I can do! :D

Back from the Falmouth area. Tired and worn out.
Only 28.3 miles but 3,279ft of ascent, and those hills came and came again with a vengeance.
That's just about 116ft per mile.
It doesn't really tell the tale though, as the hills were steep and frequent.

Ten parish churches done, making a total so far of 201.
Twenty-five left to do! :D

Today.

Wow! Fantastic, and you are not even doing ride and stride.
Although I am not a believer I always contribute to this.... https://www.rideandstrideuk.org/ which raises money for good causes. From my sorties into the local countryside here in Mid Devon I now fully appreciate how challenging the West Country is. We have an exceptional church here only 75 metres from the house - 12 locally made bells.

If I've got this right mick, you often don't go inside these churches you visit?

If so, seems a terrible pity.

I really like popping inside)loitering in churches on my travels by bike.

And I'm an atheist.

Some have kitchens/books for sale. And interesting memorials.

Some are on my list for kipping outside.

One of my favourite northern churches has some fine tombs AND a toilet that is part of some global twinning scheme, something I didn't even know existed.

It takes long enough to visit them without going inside, many are locked

I keep meaning to visit a church for a service (aka a free concert with stories from the bible, a good time to relax, make notes), you should try that Sweep
Did visit a cyclists service, the rev made dodgy comments about helmuts :?

Visited a church recently, a wedding was in progress, I waited silently behind the glass door, the minder indicated I might go in, sat at the back as Christine and Christian tied the knot, then I sensed the service was nearly over, scarpered for fear of being photographed and invited to the feast

I am intrigued. What is the Lord's line on lids?
It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Lll?
The rev seems a nice guy, he stood up for minority rights in the paper a while ago (he is a divorcee), there was some lovely organ music, the church is a nice modern brutalist concrete box but I was surprised at his Hellmuth advocacy, maybe he did not seek expert advice or check these fora
The service was organised by the adfc, alles denkbar falsch club, everything possible wrong club, that would explain anything
