On tour need urgent help with Brakes NOW RESOLVED

Post by mnichols »

Currently cycling from Pisa to Barcelona, and after a couple of big climbing and descending days my brake pads are almost worn out, and I’ve still got 6 days and lots of climbing to do

The brakes are TRP sphyre, and I’m currently in Genoa (Sunday 9/9) night.

Tomorrow we leave before 8 and cycle along the coast to San Remo, Tuesday we cycle to Nice, but got lots of climbing before then. Then it’s Barjols, Lunel, Perpignan and Girona

The back doesn’t look too bad, maybe +1mm, the front is wearing worse on one side and from top to bottom, on the bottom it’s hardly any left

What are my chances of getting TRP sphyre pads enroute? Or shipped to a hotel enroute. Really need them in Nice at the latest

Or am I worried about nothing. I’ve got about 559 miles left to do

Any /all advice welcome

Surely there are decent LBSs in Italia
Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120

Are these common pads that I can get in any lbs or are they specific to TRP, and what is the likelihood of getting in an LBS in Italia or France?

a local amazon site with a specified delivery address might work. just let the hotel know to save them.

from a quick oogle though they are listed as TRP, Tektro and shimano so I'd try an LBS or decathlon appear to have something that fits.

2 decathlons in genoa

It looks like they are common pads and can be interchanged with other makes

read this https://road.cc/content/forum/174078-ro ... mendations

Find a bike shop and talk nice to them if you want it done in a hurry

You want Shimano deore M515 or M525 type pads. They are very common so should be stocked by any reasonable bike shop.

Thanks. Went to decathlon as suggested and they sorted it.

That was a big help

Suggestion for next time:

Start the tour with new pads; and

Carry spares.

True, but shows what a great forum this is. Almost international rescue.
